Throughout Scripture, He is revealed as the Spirit of God, the breath of life, and the very Spirit of <strong>Jesus<\/strong> (Acts 16:7). When Jesus promised the Spirit, He wasn\u2019t sending someone <em>other<\/em>\u2014He was sending <strong>Himself<\/strong> in spiritual form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Romans 8:9<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cYou, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of <\/em><strong><em>Jesus Christ<\/em><\/strong><em>, they do not belong to him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>John 14:18<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cI will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>John 16:7<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cIt is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus had to ascend so His Spirit could descend\u2014not just to dwell <em>with<\/em> us, but <em>in<\/em> us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 \u25aa The Holy Spirit Moves Like Wind<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus described the Spirit using a mysterious, powerful image:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>John 3:8<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThe wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In both Hebrew (<em>ruach<\/em>) and Greek (<em>pneuma<\/em>), the word for \u201cSpirit\u201d also means <strong>wind<\/strong> or <strong>breath<\/strong>. Like the wind, the Spirit is unseen but deeply felt\u2014uncontrollable, sovereign, and life-giving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>He comes gently or with power (Acts 2:2).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He moves in unexpected directions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>He awakens dry bones and brings dead things to life (Ezekiel 37:1\u201310).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spirit is not bound by walls or titles\u2014He moves on God\u2019s initiative and cannot be manufactured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 \u25aa Promised From the Beginning<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>God always intended to place His Spirit within His people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Ezekiel 36:27<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cI will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Joel 2:28<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cI will pour out my Spirit on all people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Luke 24:49<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cI am going to send you what my Father has promised.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>John 7:38\u201339<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cWhoever believes in me\u2026 rivers of living water will flow from within them. By this he meant the Spirit\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>At Pentecost (Acts 2), this promise was fulfilled\u2014and the Spirit of Jesus began indwelling believers permanently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4 \u25aa How People Experienced the Spirit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout Scripture, people often <em>felt<\/em> or <em>noticed<\/em> when the Spirit came upon them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><th>Person(s)<\/th><th>Reaction to the Spirit<\/th><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Ezekiel<\/strong> (Ez 3:14)<\/td><td>Bitterness, heat, and a strong divine pressure<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Daniel<\/strong> (Dan 10:8\u201310)<\/td><td>Weakness, trembling, collapse, then strengthening<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Disciples<\/strong> (Acts 2)<\/td><td>Wind, fire, speaking in tongues, joy, boldness<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Saul\/Paul<\/strong> (Acts 9)<\/td><td>Blinded, then healed and empowered<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Stephen<\/strong> (Acts 7:55)<\/td><td>Vision of Jesus, boldness, peaceful death<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Elizabeth<\/strong> (Luke 1:41)<\/td><td>Spontaneous praise and prophecy<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Zechariah<\/strong> (Luke 1:67)<\/td><td>Prophetic utterance<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Cornelius\u2019 household<\/strong> (Acts 10:44\u201346)<\/td><td>Tongues, worship, visible joy<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Simeon<\/strong> (Luke 2:27)<\/td><td>Spirit-led timing and recognition of Jesus<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These encounters often involved <strong>prophecy<\/strong>, <strong>visions<\/strong>, <strong>joy<\/strong>, <strong>boldness<\/strong>, <strong>repentance<\/strong>, or a supernatural sense of direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 \u25aa Receiving vs. Being Filled<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/greatestcommandment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/people_spirit_resized_80-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greatestcommandment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/people_spirit_resized_80-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/greatestcommandment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/people_spirit_resized_80-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/greatestcommandment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/people_spirit_resized_80-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/greatestcommandment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/people_spirit_resized_80-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/greatestcommandment.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/people_spirit_resized_80-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Every true believer receives the Spirit when they believe (Ephesians 1:13), but Scripture also speaks of deeper, ongoing <strong>filling<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Ephesians 5:18<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cBe continually filled with the Spirit.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Acts 4:31<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThey were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Luke 4:1<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cJesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spirit is like breath\u2014you can inhale, but still need to <strong>keep breathing<\/strong>. Ongoing filling requires openness, humility, and hunger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6 \u25aa The Spirit\u2019s Gifts and Fruit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Holy Spirit equips believers with both <strong>powerful gifts<\/strong> and <strong>Christlike character<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25aa Spiritual Gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4\u201311)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wisdom, knowledge, faith<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Healing, miracles, prophecy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tongues, interpretation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discernment of spirits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 12:7<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cNow to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25aa Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22\u201323)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Love, joy, peace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patience, kindness, goodness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faithfulness, gentleness, self-control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Gifts show what the Spirit <strong>does<\/strong>. Fruit shows what the Spirit <strong>produces in us<\/strong>. Both reflect God\u2019s nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7 \u25aa He Leads, Teaches, and Intercedes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spirit isn\u2019t just a gift-giver; He\u2019s our constant <strong>companion and guide<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>John 14:26<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThe Holy Spirit\u2026 will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>John 16:13<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cHe will guide you into all truth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Romans 8:26<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThe Spirit helps us in our weakness\u2026 intercedes for us\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>He convicts us of sin, comforts us in sorrow, and gives clarity when human understanding fails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8 \u25aa He Assures and Seals Us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Romans 8:16<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cThe Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God\u2019s children.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Ephesians 1:13\u201314<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cYou were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit\u2026 a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>We are not left guessing. The Spirit confirms who we are and what lies ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9 \u25aa The Spirit Can Be Resisted or Quenched<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Scripture warns that we can <strong>hinder<\/strong> or <strong>grieve<\/strong> the Spirit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Acts 7:51<\/strong> \u2014 \u201cYou always resist the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ephesians 4:30<\/strong> \u2014 \u201cDo not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1 Thessalonians 5:19<\/strong> \u2014 \u201cDo not quench the Spirit.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sin, pride, unforgiveness, and fear can suppress His movement. But when we repent, He fills us afresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10 \u25aa Invitation to Experience the Spirit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To receive and walk in the Spirit of Jesus:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Believe<\/strong> in Jesus Christ (John 7:38\u201339).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ask<\/strong> the Father for His Spirit (Luke 11:13).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Repent<\/strong> and surrender your life to Him (Acts 2:38).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yield<\/strong> daily\u2014confess, forgive, listen, obey.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expect<\/strong> Him to move\u2014like wind, in His time and power.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>2 Corinthians 3:17<\/strong> \u2014 <em>\u201cWhere the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Let the breath of God fill your heart, guide your steps, and transform your life.
