What It’s Like Knowing Jesus — Experiencing the Messiah Personally
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”
— John 17:3
Many know about Jesus. Fewer truly know Him. Yet Jesus made it clear—eternal life is found in knowing Him personally. So what is that like? What does it feel like? And why does it matter?
🏆 Knowing Jesus Is Like Finding a Treasure
Jesus said:
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field… in his joy, he went and sold all he had and bought that field.”
— Matthew 13:44
The Greek word for “joy” here is χαρά (chara) — deep, spiritual gladness.
To know Jesus is to discover something so valuable that it changes everything. You gladly leave behind lesser things to gain Him. The relationship becomes the reward.

👑 Knowing Jesus Is Knowing the Messiah (Χριστός)
The word Messiah comes from the Hebrew Mashiach—meaning Anointed One. In Greek, it’s Χριστός (Christos). To know Jesus is to recognize Him not just as teacher, but as the chosen Savior foretold by the prophets.
“I, the one speaking to you—I am he [the Messiah].”
— John 4:26
Jesus fulfills three divine roles:
- Prophet – speaking God’s truth
- Priest – interceding and forgiving sin
- King – ruling with justice and peace
“His kingdom will never end.”
— Luke 1:33

🌿 Knowing Jesus Is Like Abiding in a Vine
“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from me, you can do nothing.”
— John 15:5
The word Jesus uses for “remain” is μένω (menō)—to abide, dwell, stay.
Knowing Jesus isn’t a one-time belief. It’s an ongoing, living connection. His life flows into you. You bear spiritual fruit—love, joy, peace, patience (Galatians 5:22–23).

🐑 Knowing Jesus Means Hearing His Voice
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
— John 10:27
The Greek word for “know” here is γινώσκω (ginōskō)—a deep, intimate kind of knowing.
Jesus doesn’t offer a religion—He offers a relationship. His sheep hear His voice and follow Him daily. And He knows them by name.

🌬️ Knowing Jesus Is Like the Wind — Invisible Yet Powerful
Jesus said:
“The wind blows wherever it pleases… So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
— John 3:8
In Greek, the same word is used for wind and Spirit: πνεῦμα (pneuma).
To know Jesus is to have His Spirit living in you. You may not see Him—but you feel His presence, His leading, His conviction, and His power to change.
“It is for your good that I am going away… unless I go, the Advocate will not come to you.”
— John 16:7

🔥 Knowing Jesus Means Transformation from the Inside Out
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17
Those who know Jesus don’t stay the same. He doesn’t just forgive—He transforms. His Spirit teaches, renews, convicts, and leads us into freedom from sin.
“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
— John 3:30
Knowing Jesus is a daily yielding to His life, His love, and His truth.

⚔️ Following Jesus Means Dying to Self and Walking in His Way
“Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
— John 12:24
To follow Jesus is to surrender your self-will, pride, and sin. Like a seed that dies in the soil, your old self must be buried—so His life can grow in you.
“Take up your cross daily and follow me.”
— Luke 9:23

💡 Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life
Jesus declared:
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
— John 14:6
In Greek:
- hē hodos – the Way
- hē alētheia – the Truth
- hē zōē – the Life
To know Jesus is to find your true direction, your true reality, and your true source of life.

❗ Final Reflection: Do You Know Him?
“Many will say to me… ‘Lord, Lord,’ and I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you.’”
— Matthew 7:22–23
It’s not enough to know about Him. The real question is: Does He know you? Do you accept His words? Trust His commands? Walk with Him daily?
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
— John 14:15 (ESV)
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
— Luke 6:46 (ESV)
And its parallel warning at the end of the Sermon on the Mount:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.”
— Matthew 7:21
Jesus wants to be known—not in religion, but in relationship. To those who come in humility, love truth, and seek His Kingdom, He says:
“I will come in and eat with them, and they with me.”
— Revelation 3:20
✨ Call to Action
If you’ve been distant from Jesus—or never truly known Him—His invitation still stands:
“Come, follow me.” — Matthew 4:19
Spend time in His teachings. Ask Him to reveal Himself. Turn away from sin. Abide in Him. And you will discover: knowing Jesus is life itself.
